Qualifications

Michael Baefsky is the owner of Baefsky & Associates, an Environmental Consulting firm located in the San Francisco Bay Area. Three major areas of emphases of his company are Integrated Pest Management, Arboriculture and Applied Soils Ecology. As a licensed Agricultural Pest Control Advisor and consulting Certified Arborist, he has been providing information services to cities, counties, the State of CA , developers, builders, homeowners and others since 1985.

INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT (IPM): Baefsky began working as a researcher on an IPM project in Israel in 1975. His work and studies in the fields of IPM and landscaping led him to UC Berkeley, via Cabrillo College and UC Santa Cruz. In Berkeley he finished a degree in pest management, and upon graduation he began working and teaching in the field.

ARBORICULTURE - THE CARE OF TREES: Starting out working for Entriken Tree Service in Piedmont, CA and Treescapes, Inc. in Oakland, CA, Michael's career as a consulting arborist has included diagnostic tree pathology, tree management program development and implementation, and ongoing plant health care programs.

SOILS ECOLOGY - Academic, professional and hands-on training have developed Michael's perspective of plant growth and development that is rooted in soils health and quality. Plant problems as influenced by soils, matching plants to soils, and doing routine soil fertility management are all aspects of soils that have been part of Baefsky's consulting work.
